Berkeley Humane offers free pet vaccines and microchips this weekend at 936 Carleton St.

The Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society is hosting a free vaccine and microchip clinic for dogs and cats this weekend at its location at 936 Carleton St. in Berkeley, according to Patch Union City.

The event runs Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointments are necessary.

Dogs can receive rabies and DAPP vaccines, while cats can get FVRCP vaccines. Flea and tick prevention, dewormer and microchipping are also available, the nonprofit said.

A similar event in May served 450 pets, which the organization said highlighted "the tremendous need for accessible preventive veterinary care throughout the Bay Area."

"No one should have to put off a vaccine or microchip because of cost," Jeffrey Zerwekh, executive director of Berkeley Humane, said in a statement. "When we make preventive care accessible, we are not only protecting the health of pets; we are helping families stay together."

All dogs must be on a leash and all cats must be in a secure carrier. Pets that appear visibly ill will not be vaccinated, and the medical team reserves the right to refuse service, the nonprofit said. The organization also asked owners to bring previous vaccination records, especially if requesting a rabies shot.
