Witnesses Box In Driver After Head-On Cyclist Crash Near Codornices Park
The first hit-and-run occurred just before 5:40 p.m. in the 1200 block of Euclid Avenue near Codornices Park. Police said a 45-year-old El Sobrante woman driving southbound on Euclid Avenue in a green Subaru Outback drifted into the northbound lane and struck a 22-year-old Berkeley man riding a bicycle head-on.
When the driver attempted to leave the scene, witnesses used their own vehicles to box in her car until officers arrived. Berkeley firefighters transported the 22-year-old cyclist to Highland Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and police arrested the driver on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and DUI.

Police said the driver fled on foot after the crash, but responding officers located and arrested him about three blocks away on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence.
Earlier on Monday, around 12:15 p.m., another cyclist—a man in his 60s—suffered minor injuries in a collision at Russell and Shattuck avenues in South Berkeley, where the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers.
