According to Oakland North: Children's Fairyland in Oakland will premiere a puppet show adaptation of the Lisjan fire creation story, based on oral tradition preserved within families. The show runs from Sept. 30 to Nov. 29, with performances at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. Deja Gould, historical preservation officer for the Lisjan Nation, provided the narrative for the adaptation. Most collaborators involved in the production, including voice actors and set designers, are Indigenous. The set design incorporates East Bay natural settings with native plants and a Mount Diablo backdrop. Gould is creating beadwork for puppet costumes using traditional materials such as shells and nuts. Tickets are $18 for children and $20 for adults.
