Christie Road work in Martinez runs through Sept. 23

Contra Costa County Public Works starts road work on Christie Road in Martinez on Wednesday, Sept. 16, and expects to finish by Wednesday, Sept. 23, the department said in a notice issued Sept. 10.\n\nCrews will work Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Temporary lane closures will be in effect, with traffic control directing vehicles through the work area. Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes during working hours.\n\nChristie Road is not a commute route for most people, which is why it is easy to get caught out. It is the address of Fernandez Ranch, the John Muir Land Trust preserve at 1081 Christie Road, so the closures sit on the way to the trailhead.\n\nMore than 1,180 acres of the ranch are open to the public, on the Windmill, Black Phoebe, Woodrat and Whipsnake trails, with a connection to the Bay Area Ridge Trail. Well-behaved dogs are allowed off leash. Anyone heading out on a weekday morning this week should add the quarter hour.\n\nThe county listed Stephen Wilder, 925-313-7009, as the contact for the work. Contra Costa County Public Works maintains more than 650 miles of county roads, along with flood control channels and county buildings, and its notice says the dates hold barring unforeseen circumstances.
