Construction on the Clement Avenue / Tilden Way Improvement Project in Alameda entered Stage 5A on Monday, September 21, bringing a partial opening of the new roundabout at Tilden Way, Blanding Avenue, and Fernside Boulevard, according to Alameda Post.

What's closed now

Blanding Avenue between Broadway and Tilden Way is closed to southbound traffic; northbound access is available only via a right turn from westbound Tilden Way. Fernside Boulevard between Tilden Way and Versailles Avenue is closed to westbound traffic; eastbound access is via a right turn from eastbound Tilden Way. Detour signs are in place.

Bus service affected

AC Transit reports that six bus stops in the area are closed from September 21 through October 4 due to the construction. Lines 19, 51A, and 663 are affected. Alternate stops have been designated, including Buena Vista Avenue at Park Street for Line 19 and Broadway at Eagle Avenue for Lines 51A and 663.

What's next

Stage 5B, expected in early October, will fully open the roundabout to vehicular traffic. Blanding Avenue between Broadway and Tilden Way will remain closed through Stage 5B, with completion scheduled for January 2027.

About the project

The broader project includes new bikeways and walkways completing the Cross Alameda Trail, a dog park, bus stop and accessibility improvements, and pavement resurfacing. Funding comes from Measure BB, Measure RR, and other local sources, per Alameda Post.
