Contra Costa County Public Works will rehabilitate the Robert I. Schroder Pedestrian Bridge over Treat Boulevard in Walnut Creek from October 5 through December 31, 2026.

Contra Costa County Public Works announced plans to rehabilitate the Robert I. Schroder Pedestrian Bridge over Treat Boulevard in Walnut Creek, according to a news flash posted by Contra Costa County. Work begins Monday, October 5, 2026, and runs through Thursday, December 31, 2026, barring unforeseen circumstances.

According to Contra Costa County, work takes place between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, excluding holidays, weather permitting. The bridge will be closed for the duration of the project.

Pedestrian and bicycle users on the Iron Horse Trail will be redirected to the existing street crossing on Treat Boulevard for approximately three to four months, Contra Costa County said.

Contra Costa County said drivers can expect 10-minute delays on Treat Boulevard during construction with occasional lane closures. Approximately four night-time road closures will also be required, with an approximate 5-mile traffic detour implemented during that work.

The project includes replacing bearing pads, paint repairs, bridge deck treatment, and sidewalk and curb replacement, according to Contra Costa County.

Funding is provided by Measure X Funds and Park Dedication Funds, Contra Costa County said.
