Officers with the Hayward Police Department responded to an unusual wildlife call after a seal was found wandering in the middle of a roadway in Hayward, according to a report published across Patch.

Police officers secured the roadway and ensured the seal remained safe while awaiting the arrival of rescue specialists from The Marine Mammal Center.

Taken Into Care by The Marine Mammal Center

According to the Hayward Police Department, the seal enjoyed a brief period of playtime under officers’ watch before officials from The Marine Mammal Center arrived on scene and took the animal into their care.

The East Bay rescue follows an earlier Bay Area incident in April, when a sea lion pup named Irving by officials was rescued after wandering onto streets in San Francisco far from its marine habitat.
