Wildfire insurance regulation, municipal wage standards at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), and a Chase Center Pride Night performance shaped Bay Area civic coverage on November 7, 2026.

Former SF Supervisor Jane Kim Declares Victory in California Insurance Commissioner Race

Former San Francisco Supervisor Jane Kim declared victory in the statewide contest for California Insurance Commissioner, preparing to succeed termed-out Commissioner Ricardo Lara as regulator of a $3 trillion insurance marketplace. Campaigning on an overhaul of residential property coverage in fire-prone communities, Kim proposed establishing a nonprofit, state-run wildfire disaster insurance fund to stabilize rates and prevent policy non-renewals.

In Santa Rosa, homeowner Amy Robinson—who lost her home in the 2020 Glass Fire—described how insurer withdrawals and soaring premiums have stalled recovery across northern California wine country, noting that only 3 of the 10 homes lost in her neighborhood have been rebuilt since 2020.

Supervisor Rafael Mandelman Proposes $30 Hourly Minimum Wage at SFO by 2030

In San Francisco, District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandelman—who leaves the Board of Supervisors at the end of the year after winning election as City Attorney—introduced an amendment to the city's Minimum Compensation Ordinance proposing a $30-per-hour minimum wage by 2030 for more than 10,000 workers at San Francisco International Airport. Backed by 7 co-sponsors on the 11-member board, including Supervisor Matt Dorsey, the ordinance targets subcontracted wheelchair attendants, cabin cleaners, ramp agents, and skycaps.

At a rally with Unite Here Local 2 President Anand Singh and SEIU United Service Workers West President David Huerta, 74-year-old SFO wheelchair attendant Nestor Dolde testified that he has worked at the airport for 17 years and currently earns $22.51 per hour, requiring him to work two 8-hour shifts—16 hours a day—to cover Bay Area living expenses. Supporters cited a 1999 Quality Standards Program study by the UC Berkeley Labor Center, which found that raising wages at SFO lifted pay by 33% for 9,700 workers and cut employee turnover by 34% among ramp and cabin cleaning crews, carrying $42.7 million in direct employer costs and $14.9 million in spillover costs, or approximately $1.42 per airline passenger. In fiscal year 2024, SFO operations generated $14.4 billion in business revenue, contributing $319 million in tax revenue to San Francisco and $419 million to San Mateo County.

San Francisco Singer Jason Brock Addresses Response to Pride Flag at Warriors Game

At Chase Center, San Francisco vocalist Jason Brock addressed online messages after waving a small Pride flag at the conclusion of his national anthem performance on Thursday night during the Golden State Warriors' annual Pride Night game. Brock, who previously sang the national anthem at the San Francisco Giants' 2024 Pride celebration and at a Golden State Valkyries game, said the gesture was intended as a message of inclusion and resilience for LGBTQ+ fans in attendance.
