Mamahuhu and Boichik Bagels Partner for Community Mahjong Tournament and Cultural Culinary Residency
Beloved Bay Area food pioneers unite traditional Chinese tabletop gaming with artisan sourdough bagels and handmade dumplings.

Two of the Bay Area's most celebrated contemporary culinary pioneers, Chinese-American comfort kitchen Mamahuhu and artisan sourdough bakery Boichik Bagels, announced a collaborative weekend community pop-up and mahjong tournament series on Wednesday. Launching on Saturday, October 24, at Mamahuhu's flagship Clement Street location in San Francisco before moving to Boichik's bakery campus in Berkeley, the culinary residency celebrates generational heritage foodways and traditional Chinese tabletop gaming in a convivial neighborhood setting.
The unique cross-cultural menu introduces inventive limited-edition creations, including toasted everything bagels filled with scallion-ginger cream cheese and house-cured Char Siu bacon, alongside crisp sesame seed bagels paired with mapo tofu scramble and handmade sweet red bean rugelach. Founders Brandon Jew, Ben Moore, and Emily Winston explained that the collaboration originated from a shared passion for bridging diaspora food traditions and creating inclusive third spaces where neighbors can connect over shared meals and friendly gameplay.
San Francisco cultural affairs department officials and community merchant leaders commended the cultural program for fostering inclusive neighborhood gathering spaces and supporting independent local dining. In addition to food and beverage offerings, the event hosts structured, beginner-friendly mahjong gameplay sessions guided by experienced instructors from the Northern California Mahjong Association. Attendees can learn classical tile matching strategies, enjoy organic jasmine iced teas, and compete in lighthearted amateur tournament brackets with commemorative culinary prizes awarded to top table scorers.
Tickets for reserved gameplay tables, tasting flights, and tournament registrations are available online at eatmamahuhu.com/events. Food lovers and neighborhood gaming enthusiasts can view dietary accommodations, complete table reservations, and purchase commemorative merchandise directly through the event portal. Inquiries regarding community group bookings may be submitted to Mamahuhu guest relations at (415) 742-4944 Wednesday through Sunday.
