Masses Sports Bar & Grill has reopened in downtown Walnut Creek at 1411 Locust St., fulfilling a promise by its family owners to keep the longtime neighborhood gathering spot in the city after its former North Main Street building was slated for redevelopment, according to a Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026 report by Angela Woodall for Patch Walnut Creek.

From 2721 N. Main St. in 1994 to Downtown Locust Street in 2026

Maury and Christine Paden originally opened the 10,000-square-foot billiards hall and sports bar at 2721 N. Main St. in 1994, and their children, Barrett and Eric Paden, took over day-to-day ownership in 2013. Because the family owned the business but not the underlying land, Masses served its final round at the North Main Street property on Feb. 8, 2026—Super Bowl Sunday—after more than three decades at that address.

On March 3, 2026, the Walnut Creek City Council approved plans for a 3-level Porsche sales and service dealership at North Main Street and Second Avenue, a project that includes demolishing the former Masses building. In April, the Paden family announced that the business had secured a new downtown home at 1411 Locust St.

Inside the 3,522-Square-Foot Downtown Venue

According to the city's Oct. 8, 2026 Planning Commission staff report—celebrated publicly by Planning Commissioner and City Council candidate Brendan Moran following commission approval—the new downtown restaurant occupies 3,522 square feet.

The approved floor plan features pool tables, a full kitchen, a bar, dining tables, space for dancing, and large-screen televisions broadcasting live sporting events. Configured for 80 seats when arranged strictly for dining, the layout supports a total occupancy capacity of up to 299 patrons and is staffed by approximately 6 full-time employees and 27 part-time workers. While the storefront does not include on-site parking, downtown patrons have access to metered street spaces as well as the nearby Lesher Center, Locust Street, and Broadway municipal parking garages.
