According to Claycord: Oakland City Council has approved a 45-day moratorium on new data center projects with a unanimous 7-0 vote. The moratorium aims to provide time to draft regulations addressing the environmental impacts of data centers.

Data centers are known for their significant consumption of electrical power and water, which has raised concerns about their environmental impact. The moratorium is part of a broader effort to manage these impacts effectively.

Other Bay Area cities, including San Francisco, Gilroy, Richmond, and Oakley, have also enacted similar moratoriums on new data center projects.
