Oakland's Skyline High School confirmed on Wednesday that the remainder of its 2026 football season is canceled, KTVU FOX 2 reported. The school said it didn't have enough players, citing injuries, transfers and other circumstances as factors that contributed to the early end of the season.

Last Friday's scheduled game had already been canceled due to those same circumstances, KTVU FOX 2 reported, which signaled the team would not have enough players to finish the year.

Principal Rebecca Huang wrote a letter to the school community explaining that the Oakland Athletic League, the Oakland Section of the CIF, and the High School Network were all consulted before the decision was made, according to KTVU FOX 2.

Homecoming festivities during the week of October 12 through 17 will see adjustments, with the focus shifting to the flag football and girls' volleyball teams' home games that week, KTVU FOX 2 reported.

School officials say they will focus on recruiting more JV and varsity student athletes and hope the football program can return next school year, according to KTVU FOX 2.
