According to KALW 91.7: Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) has begun implementing various measures to combat rising temperatures in classrooms, including coating school roofs with reflective paint, building shade structures, removing asphalt, and installing tinted films on windows.

According to KALW 91.7, 83% of OUSD facilities lack cooling systems, affecting more than two thousand classrooms. This initiative aims to improve the learning environment for students and staff.

Chabot Elementary School has already installed window films and portable air conditioning units to mitigate the heat. These measures are part of a broader effort to address the issue of classroom temperatures.

To monitor the effectiveness of these measures, temperature sensors will be installed in classrooms to track heat, humidity, and CO2 levels. This data will help OUSD assess the impact of the cooling initiatives.

A public dashboard displaying this data will be launched this week, providing transparency and allowing the community to track progress in real-time.
