SAN FRANCISCO — Software engineering acquisitions, government cybersecurity deployments, and consumer artificial intelligence features accelerated on Wednesday, November 4, as OpenAI agreed to acquire Pierre Computer Company, Inc., Meta purchased multi-agent coding startup Conductor, and Apple, Nothing, AT&T, and Uber detailed new consumer AI rollouts and quarterly usage figures.

OpenAI Acquires Pierre Computer Company and Launches Daybreak Red and Images 2.6 GIFs

In an official announcement from OpenAI News, OpenAI announced plans to acquire Pierre Computer Company, Inc. ("Pierre"), the developer behind Code Storage and open-source Trees and Diffs libraries used in the Codex app, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals while keeping Pierre's open-source projects open-source. Separately, OpenAI News confirmed that Daybreak Red—including purpose-trained cybersecurity model GPT-5.6 Cyber for authorized vulnerability research, exploit validation, and security testing—is now available to approved government security teams in AWS GovCloud (US-East) without using inference data to train models.

On the consumer side, The Verge reported that OpenAI is rolling out Images 2.6 across ChatGPT and Codex on web, desktop, and mobile apps, enabling users—who now generate over 4 billion images per week across ChatGPT and its API—to create animated GIFs from text prompts or uploaded photos, adjust animation speed, and edit individual frames. In a separate hardware discussion reported by The Verge, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman temporarily changed his X display name to "Ram Altman" while defending PC memory purchases and calling for global manufacturers to ramp up RAM production so users can install as much memory as they want.

Meanwhile, TechCrunch opened TechCrunch Founder Summit 2026 at 9:00 a.m. ET (9 a.m. ET) at SoWa Power Station in Boston, running registration and expo hours through 4:30 p.m., a Braindate networking lounge from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., breakout sessions from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and roundtables from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Apple Tests Siri Recaps, Nothing Teases Screen-Free Device, AT&T Adds Gemini, and Uber Reports Q3 Agent Rides

Consumer hardware and platform operators also unveiled new milestones:

  • Apple Siri Recaps: According to TechCrunch, Apple rolled out 4 Audio Intelligence features in the first developer betas of iOS 27.3 and watchOS 27.3 for Apple Watch Series 12, including on-device Siri Recaps for summarizing daily conversations and notes, sound detection, song identification, and a Live Rewind feature that reviews the past 15 seconds of audio while redacting private information.
  • Nothing & AT&T Connected Life: As reported by The Verge, Nothing CEO Carl Pei announced on X that the company will launch its first screen-free "AI-native" hardware device in December, describing it as a tool that "couldn't have been an app." Separately, The Verge reported that AT&T integrated Google’s Gemini for Home into its $29.99/month Connected Life smart security system—originally launched in December 2022 with Google and Abode—to provide camera event summaries and natural-language video search.
  • Uber Q3 2026 Agent Disclosures: According to The Verge, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and company executives disclosed on their Q3 2026 earnings call that third-party AI agents arranged just 4 (four) rides during the quarter and around 500 Uber Eats orders during the week of Halloween out of 320 million total trips and deliveries.
