According to Hoodline: San Jose's City Council voted unanimously on Monday to authorize negotiations with Episcopal Community Services of San Francisco to transform the Arena Hotel, a 90-room interim homeless shelter on The Alameda, into a mixed-income housing complex. The project aims to provide a range of housing options for residents, including affordable units.

The Arena Hotel has been serving as an interim homeless shelter since 2018, providing temporary housing for individuals in need. The proposed transformation into a mixed-income housing complex could offer long-term solutions for housing insecurity in the area.

PropertyWorx LLC has been designated as a backup developer for the project, should negotiations with Episcopal Community Services of San Francisco not proceed as planned. The City Council's decision marks a significant step towards addressing the housing crisis in San Jose.
