According to Hoodline: The Tenderloin Community Benefits District is set to finalize the purchase of 200 Leavenworth St. on Friday, following a fundraising effort that raised $12 million. The nonprofit has been working to reclaim the corner for over a decade, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
According to Hoodline: Kate Robinson, a key figure in the effort, has been working to reclaim the corner for more than 10 years, per the San Francisco Chronicle.
According to Hoodline: Undercover investigations dating back to 2011 found illegal narcotics sales and fencing of stolen goods at the address. Raids uncovered drugs, illegal gambling machines, loaded handguns, and piles of cash.
According to Hoodline: The full project, including renovation, is expected to cost $25 million, with roughly $12.5 million still needed. The renovation could take up to five years, and the planned community center will house the Tenderloin Community Benefits District and the United Playaz violence prevention program.
