San Francisco's race to succeed retiring House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi in California's 11th Congressional District entered its final 24 hours on Monday as State Sen. Scott Wiener and District 1 Supervisor Connie Chan deployed contrasting citywide ground operations—even as waterfront businesses prepared for Wednesday's Golden State Valkyries WNBA championship parade.

Wiener Campaign Projects 311,000 Door Knocks Across 90% of San Francisco Households

According to The San Francisco Standard, Wiener's campaign and its allied super PAC, Families for an Affordable San Francisco, project knocking on more than 311,000 doors, placing 240,000 phone calls, and sending 2.3 million text messages by Tuesday night—reaching 90% of the city's roughly 345,000 households:

  • Paid Canvassers & Union Backing: Campaign manager Jeff Cretan has organized more than 1,000 volunteer canvassing shifts starting from Jane Warner Plaza in the Castro, while Todd David runs the $2.3 million super PAC—funded with roughly $1.5 million from carpenters' union affiliates—employing 48 full-time paid canvassers who knock on 100 to 120 doors over 6 hours each day.
  • Chinese-Language Outreach in the Sunset: To compete on the west side after winning 37% of the June primary vote, the super PAC hired 5 Cantonese-speaking canvassers led by 26-year-old field organizer Anson, logging 22,000 Cantonese-language door knocks and phone contacts among San Francisco's roughly 30,000 Chinese-ballot voters. Total campaign and independent expenditure spending across the CA-11 race has surpassed $20 million.

Connie Chan Visits Kong Chow Temple and Rallies Over 200 Supporters in Chinatown

On Sunday, Chan joined former Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin at Chinatown's historic Kong Chow Temple on Stockton Street—making $20 incense offerings before the warrior god Guan Yu—before rallying more than 200 supporters at Willie "Woo Woo" Wong Playground, The San Francisco Standard reported:

  • Closing a 6-Point Polling Gap: An October survey showed Chan trailing Wiener by 6 percentage points despite being outspent roughly $14 million to $4 million across candidate and super PAC accounts. Chan received backing from the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, the San Francisco Labor Council, the San Francisco Democratic Party, Assemblymember Matt Haney, Supervisors Myrna Melgar, Jackie Fielder, Chyanne Chen, and Shamann Walton, and labor leaders Kim Tavaglione and Rudy Gonzalez.
  • SF Solidarity PAC Field Effort: Progressive tech millionaire Saikat Chakrabarti, who placed third in the June primary, committed roughly $1 million through his SF Solidarity PAC to hire 150 canvassers and phone bankers. Campaign consultant energetic strategist teams reported contacting 20,000 voters who backed Chakrabarti in June, with roughly 80% pledging to vote for Chan.

Embarcadero Bars and Ferry Building Prepare for Wednesday's Valkyries Parade

Just 1 day after Election Day, San Francisco will host the Golden State Valkyries championship parade on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., according to KTVU FOX 2. After players cross the bay by ferry from Oakland, the parade will step off at the Ferry Building, proceed south along the Embarcadero past Perry's and the Hi-Dive bar (which is opening early at 9 a.m. with extra bartenders), and conclude at King and 2nd streets. Finals MVP Gabby Williams and San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie are scheduled to bang the team drum at the celebration, joined by Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee and San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan.
